May is upon us and that means it is once again time for Mother’s Day. A little, known secret amongst women that many children and significant others fail to understand is that even though it’s Mother’s Day, most moms end up being responsible for their own pampering on this day. Seriously, it’s an injustice that must be righted! So… this year, we are sharing some wisdom with all of you; words for families to consider when thinking about how to make mom feel special this year. And to you ladies who do it all, feel free to share this insight with the important people in your life as a subtle nudge to send them in the right direction. ????
Here’s a simple guide to creating the perfectly pampered Mother’s Day for the special mom in your life.
Wake Up Call
Okay, in case you didn’t know, every mom wants breakfast in bed! And I’m not saying cold cereal and a grapefruit. Mom wants to see her kids being thoughtful, and if there is a significant other available, she wants to see there be some consideration and planning in place. You don’t need a bouquet of flowers, but hey, one flower to decorate her breakfast tray would certainly be a special touch. Also, you don’t want to ruin mom’s diet with gallons of syrup, but you don’t want her thinking she needs to be watching her weight either. *Tread carefully* Instead of destroying her diet, why not try a sensible, gourmet breakfast. Trade traditional blueberry pancakes for homemade banana pancakes with a fresh blueberry compote. Pair with a cup of hot coffee and some ice cold orange juice. Mom will be pleasantly stuffed, and you will get major brownie points for starting the day so delightfully.
Okay, I realize that many families are on a budget and sending mom off to the spa is not always cost effective. But guess what? There are inexpensive alternatives to spa appointments that you can treat mom to right at home. First off, instead of making mom clean the house, why not divide the daily chores amongst the kiddos as a special gift. Next, with adult supervision, light some of mom’s favorite scented candles, pour her a glass of her favorite wine (or another mimosas if you included it with breakfast????), and then let mom put up her feet and with her favorite lotion, allow her to enjoy a much needed foot rub. It doesn’t have to be an hour long, and it doesn’t have to be professional, but the effort of taking the time to pamper her will be perfect to any mom.
Alright, dinner can be a sticky subject. Some Moms prefer to cook their own dinner, others don’t want to see a dish all day unless it’s there to serve them. The simplest way to tackle this topic is to come out and ask her what she would like for dinner. Does she want to go out to eat? If so, would she like to be surprised or does she have a favorite restaurant in mind? If she is indifferent, maybe offer to take her and the kids out for ice cream cones as dessert as a trade off to her cooking dinner. The point is, let mom take five today and most importantly, make the effort to show her how much you appreciate everything she does for your family every day.
I hope these tips will help to make your Mother’s Day extra special, and a bit less stressful for all parties involved. To the mom’s out there, thank you for all that you do. After all, none of us would be here if it weren’t for moms. Happy Mother’s Day from Teacups & Tiaras SA.
